Inspiring Love for the Arts

Contre Le Mur is the French for "Up Against the Wall" and art is what we do.  We are not a traditional art gallery in that we do not have specific artists that we represent.  Instead we aim to bring art to everyone, through rehoming the great and whimsical art which we find in our travels. Our business name, Contre Le Mur and our mascot/avatar Clifford highlight our joint mission of bringing art to everyone and making art approachable to all.

 

As the daughter of a talented, yet struggling artist, I understand the passion that these pieces represent to to their creators, and my goal is to find them great homes which will love them like the artist who created them did.

Where we also differ from a traditional gallery is our playful bent that highlights how much we want art to be enjoyed and lived with, not just owned or held as an investment.  We want you to experience art in your world, while having fun with art, that is why we purchase at a reasonable cost and pass those price points onto you.

What's up with the Dog?

The dog is Clifford.  He is the shop mascot, and a beloved family member.

As a respected member of the Contre Le Mur team, and our picking/ traveling partner, we have agreed with him that his pup perspective may help our buyers find interesting pieces that they may not have thought about.

These are "Clifford's Picks" which you will see throughout the site.

To make your art purchasing experience feel even better, all sales of "Clifford's Picks" will have 10% of the purchase price go to the Humane Alliance of Washington DC's Medical Foster program, to help other seriously injured and ill creatures get the advanced care they need to find their own "forever homes".

Art Store

The main mission at Contre Le Mur is helping to fostering your love of art. To do this we aim to provide an incredible customer service experience.  Every time.

To help you in your journey we provide a wide range of services designed to get the right art into your home or business.

  • We start by finding pieces from varied art styles
    (We are not a gallery and do not represent specific artists)

  • We then do the research and
    where we can, trace provenance.

​

  • When items are sold with frames, the frame and glass are cleaned and tightened.

  • On orders over 750.00 payment plans can be arranged.

The goal is to provide a product that when sold framed, will be ready to hang and enjoy.

  • Not sure what to buy for that blank wall staring at you?  Send us a pic, tell us about you and we will try to match you with a member of our current art family.  Not what you want?  We will go on the hunt for you.

  • Have something already and know NOTHING about it? Contact us and we can work to help you find out about your art. 

NOTE: Currently we do not appraise or provide valuations.  We can give an artist price range of other sold works.  But not price your work.
