And why being different is a good thing!
Have you ever walked down the street of a major city, and seen rows of small galleries and said to yourself, I am not that kind of person. Then kept walking.
Or heard about a work of art sold at a large auction for crazy high money, and said to yourself, I am really NOT that kind of person. Nor would I ever be, even if I had that kind of money. And kept traveling down the youtube wormhole of your choice.
Or looked at a piece of abstract art, and said my five year old could have done that.
Art doesn't have to be trendy, expensive or unclear. You should like the art in your life, and have fun getting it onto your home. That is to goal of Contre Le Mur, to bring you art work and information with humor, education and a few "I never saw that coming!!" moments.
I started Contre Le Mur (up against the wall), as a place where people who don't feel comfortable going to galleries, feel auctions are very expensive places to learn and can't see art living on their walls, become comfortable and confident living with art.
So welcome! Enjoy your time with us, get Clifford a virtual dog bone and lets get art to rock your world. Even if that is "Dogs Playing Poker", that's absolutely OK.
I never saw THAT coming!!
Yes, seriously, this is art! And pretty fancy art at that. In November 2015, the first of this series "Poker Game" sold at Sotheby's for 685,000. Wonder about the cigar and pipe? This was actually a series of 18 images by the American Artist Cassius Marcellus Coolidge created between 1894 and 1910. The cigar maker Brown & Bigelow had the artist make a series of 16 after the original Poker Game.
So sometimes that art you don't think will ever be valuable, becomes, actually a lot more valuable that you ever thought!
