Here is a chance to own a tabletop sculpture from one of the artists who created the Iwo Jima memorial! A lovely 10" grey signed porcelain pelican from the late English artist Brian Arthur (1935-2022). As this piece is porcelain, it is an earlier work from this artist.
Brian Arthur began his career in the English pottery country of Staffordshire. After graduating in sculpture and art history from Southport College of Arts, Arthur pursued his study of form and structure at the Burstein School of Industrial Design. He worked in a variety of media in France and Italy, then collaborated with American sculptor Felix DeWeldon on major commemorative public sculptures, including the Iwo Jima and Harry S. Truman monuments in Washington, D.C. Initially, he used porcelain but at the latter part of his career he used bronze through the lost wax method. (Information from the Artifacts Gallery, Cambia CA.)
It is clean and in excellent condition, signature is in pencil on bottom of left foot. Ready to grace a new perch!
